Our Story

In 2017, two thirty-something newlyweds
each threw in $100, grabbed a few antiques
that were already lying around their garage and barn, and said, “Let’s see where this goes.”

Andrew and Jamie Leigh Pepple on their wedding day at Thirteen Pines Homestead

They secured a vendor space at a shop called 2nd Journeys in Bedford, PA, which they shared with Jamie’s father, Rodney. This original business, Thirteen Pines Vintage, was an evenings-and-weekends venture, as the two were both working full-time and renovating a home together. Passion and perseverance helped the business to grow quickly.

Jamie, who had been picking attics, basements and barns and frequenting auctions since her teenage years, found a vocation and a calling in the antiques business. In 2020, during the height of COVID, Andrew and Jamie purchased 2nd Journeys, and Thirteen Pines Trading Co. was born. Jamie left her previous career in early 2021, when the couple’s second child arrived, and leapt into the antiques world full-time.

Jamie’s favorite part of her job is the thrill of the hunt. She still loves to go out picking—abandoned buildings are her favorite (with owner’s permission, of course)—to work salvage jobs, to go to auctions and to bring back new treasures each week for the shop.

Andrew likes finding a new niche every few months. Where Jamie is up for anything and everything at all times, Andrew prefers to have specific items to look for. He enjoys auctions the most, although he gets anxiety about the fact that “Jamie will always buy the biggest, heaviest pieces she can get her hands on.”

The couple’s parents support them in many ways, but Rodney in particular is instrumental in the day-to-day operations of the shop. If you’ve visited Thirteen Pines, you’ve probably seen his smiling face behind the counter or on the sales floor.

And—just in case you were wondering—there are actually thirteen pine trees on the right side of the driveway at Thirteen Pines Homestead. Mystery solved.
